MUNiSQ 2025 The 16th Session | Model United Nations

March 14, 2025

Each spring approximately 400 LifePlus students attend Model United Nations International School of Qingdao, MUNiSQ, a three-day international relations simulation for 8th to 12th grade students hosted by the International School of Qingdao in Qingdao, China. At MUNiSQ, students take on the roles of UN representatives and debate amongst each other to develop sustainable solutions to ongoing global matters.

This year's theme was "Solutions for the Intractable". Some challenges appear insurmountable, their complexity rendering them seemingly beyond resolution. The theme emphasizes that even the most difficult problems can be addressed through creativity, collaboration, and relentless determination. What once seemed impossible can be achievable by deconstructing these complex issues into manageable components and approaching them with innovative thinking.

This year, six different committees were offered, including:

  • General Assembly
  • Security Council
  • Advisory Panel
  • Economic and Social Council
  • Environment Commission
  • World Health Assembly

16 CDIS students attended with four chair roles representing CDIS:
Cecil - Deputy Chair General Assembly
Esther - Head Chair of Environmental Commission
HuiJae - Head Chair of the World Health Association
Kaylyn - Deputy Chair of the World Health Association

Awards
There were six possible Best Delegate awards with six committees, and CDIS received two of them.

HuiJae (12th Grade)

"I'm the president of the World Health Assembly. I joined MUNiSQ because this will be the last MUN conference I'll be having as a high-schooler and one of our biggest LifePlus MUN conferences. I think the biggest part of my role is taking leadership and helping people make cherishable memories."

Brehanna (11th Grade)

"I am the Sweden delegate to ECOSOC. Last TIANMUN was my first MUN experience, and I felt like I could improve a lot. As a delegate, I like that I can learn about new topics and give speeches."

Through MUN, students increased their knowledge regarding international issues, policy making, and the activities of the United Nations. As they enter their global communities, our students will carry these skills in public speaking, research and writing, negotiation, powers of persuasion, leadership, organization, and interpersonal communication into their circles of influence.
