Action Packed Performance: Miss Nelson is Missing!

May 23, 2025

What happens when…unruly students in Room 207 constantly take their kind teacher, Miss Nelson, for granted? Our CDIS High School Theatre brought Miss Nelson is Missing to life this weekend! The audience was captivated by the classroom where children misbehaved regularly, throwing paper airplanes and making noise, making it impossible for anyone to learn. No matter what Miss Nelson does, the students refuse to listen. Our student performers captivated the audience with comedic moments and engaged with the crowd off stage, especially when the detective (Zach) handed out donuts and asked....
"Have you seen Miss Nelson?"

Closing Remarks from our Drama Director | Mr. Hale

This year's drama production was a huge success in so many ways! I loved hearing from so many people how much they loved the play - even many non-English speakers! Some people came to 3 or even all 4 shows. It was great to see so many of our CDIS families and teachers, as well as many people from the greater Chengdu community. Hearing our elementary students talking excitedly about the play as I walk through the halls has brought me so much joy. All of the kids involved had so much fun and can't wait for next year!

Reflections from our Student Performers

Zach enjoys acting because it gives him the opportunity to explore other personalities through the characters.

Tom has enjoyed being able to express his character and bring joy to the audience watching the show.

Jungbin would like to thank Mr. Hale for being patient with him and teaching him acting skills and life skills.

One of Esther's favorite aspects of acting is seeing the audience react to the fun characters and interesting stories.

David likes the feeling of being involved in the community of theatre, where everyone has a part to play.

SooRin enjoys being in theatre because she can pretend to be a different personality.

Yeyul has acted in numerous skits and plays at CDIS and was looking forward to having a larger role in the play.

Elsa enjoys performing in front of a lot of people and the attention of being an actress.

Kaylyn likes how sassy and bold her character is and is excited to explore her character even more through this play.

Simon has enjoyed growing as an actor at CDIS, embracing his character on stage because it is such a fun character to play.

Acting has taught Josiah how to express himself more and grow in confidence.

Eunice has enjoyed being in the play and learning how to act as a character that is different from her own personality.

It wasn't only the actors that brought this story to life, though. The Set Design Club & Prop/Costume Design Club, middle school students, and high school students participated in making the set, such as the elevator display, classroom backdrop, police station, and the street corner, just to name a few. For many of the students, this was the first time to work on a set like this, and they had to learn how to problem solve and find creative solutions for challenges they faced along the way.

Also many thanks to...
our talented makeup artists, backstage crew, volunteers, and the continual support of the parents of the cast throughout this process!
