December and the Christmas season is one of my favorite times of the year. The cool, crisp weather has us bundling up a little more and snuggling a little closer to the ones we hold dear. The stores are decorated with Christmas trees and lights hang all around, twinkling in the evening. Holiday concerts bring the sweet sounds of the season to our ears and a glistening of tears to our eyes as we reflect on the meaning of the season echoed in the voices of little children.

At CDIS the Christmas trees are up and paper snowflakes are being cut. Our choirs and bands are busy rehearsing and performing not only at the school, but also around Chengdu. Elementary students are excited about parties and there’s even a rumor of a special man in a big red suit with a white beard coming to visit soon. The Christmas season is certainly upon us!

With all of the twinkle and décor let us not forget the meaning of Christmas is in a special gift that arrived in a lowly stable under the stars one night. It’s a gift we cannot purchase in a store, nor does it come wrapped in a box, but it is a gift that is free to all of us. As you gather with family and friends and exchange a present or two, may this gift also come into your home this season—the most precious gift meant for all.

The changing face class

Tuesday in Chinese class we had a Sichuan Opera face changing teacher come to show our students saw the face changing closely (less than 2-meters distance). The students experienced how to make Sichuan Opera movements. The teacher also answered a lot of “yes/no” questions, some of our students even found out the secret behind the masks.

The High School Cross Country team participated in both CISA and Acamis events recently. For Cisa, Rachel Schuster placed first in the U19 girls and Amber Tsui placed second in the U15 Girls events. My Teacher

By Kris Kim

My teacher is a big brown bear,

But is kind to everyone.

My teacher is like a dragon,

Very strict to us.

The quiz paper dances on the table

And makes me cry.

My Mom

By Sangwon Kim

My mom is a hero.

She is like the Hulk.

Laundry dances with her hands.

Boom! She runs through the whole world.

Computer

By HyunKyu Lee

Computer is full of information.

Computer is like a dictionary.

A computer gave me an idea.

Computer’s keyboard can talk.

Computer’s mouse can say, “Click, click.”

Computer can catch a virus.

Forest

By Yowhan Kim

There is Forest,

The place like a community.

The sun is like a father,

Gives light to the plants to grow up.

The moon is like a mother,

Lets animals sleep to rest in night.

And they depend on each other.

Stronger animals kill the weaker animals to eat.

Weaker animals eat plants so that they don’t grow too much.

Plants give fresh air to the others.

They develop together.

Forest is a wonderful place!

Forest can make some lives,

Forest can make people healthier,

And the forest has so many more interesting things.
