I am the descendant of Irish potato farmers who immigrated to North America in the 19th century and eventually settled in the northeast corner of the United States, where I was born and raised. I have always enjoyed the international experience, spending part of my growing up years in Australia, where my parents lived for 20 years. Before moving to China I worked in social work and alternative education in the city of Philadelphia, where I met and married my wife. We now have a growing family and enjoy living and working in China. In my spare time, I love reading, sports, and spending time with my wife and kids. I feel privileged to be an educator and consider it a joy to work with the incredible students and staff that we have at Chengdu International School.

I grew up in Texas and lived in Colorado and Northern California before settling in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. I took enough credits for a degree in English, but eventually earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications. I worked as a reporter, writer, editor, editorial manager, and project manager in local and Fortune 500 companies for over 20 years. After two decades in Georgia, I moved to Idaho with my daughter to become a senior editorial project manager. Once she went off to college, I decided to follow my bliss and become a teacher. So I earned a Master of Arts in Teaching degree from George Fox University.

From an early age, I imagined being an educator and working with both students and adults in molding the future for tomorrow.  Born and raised in Georgia in the United States, I grew up with a family that instilled a desire and passion to serve others.  For part of my college years, I lived in Davao City, Philippines, where I got my taste for travel and experiencing the world through service.  I have a wonderful husband, Jeff, and two wonderful children, Jillian and Jonah.  I love spending my spare time with my family, exploring new destinations and learning about the world around us.  My passion as an educator is helping others, both young and seasoned, to grow and learn and expand their thinking each and every day.  I can’t wait to see this passion grow with others at Chengdu International School!

I must have been born not to put down my roots in any one place because I have lived in 23 different homes so far, and counting! I was born in Seoul, Korea, and grew up there with four sisters until the mid 70’s, when our parents decided to emigrate to America. Having lived in many places in the States, I’m what you might call a “měiguótōng” (美国通). I have lived in various parts of America: Chicago, Atlanta, Los Angeles, and Texas; as well as having visited 39 out of the 50 states.

Beginning as a clerk at Marshall’s Department Store during my junior year in high school and continuing over the following 30 years, I have gained professional experience working as a financial and operational auditor, finance and I.T. director, and financial controller in various retail, corporate, and manufacturing corporations.

Since moving to China in 2007, I studied Chinese language for four years at two different universities. I also operated an SAT academy and developed curriculum for and taught SAT classes for two years prior to joining CDIS in its Information Technology Department. I look forward to utilizing my 30+ years of finance experience and passion for information technology to support the endeavors of CDIS.

My wife and I have been married for over 20 years and have one daughter, two sons, and one dog. My passions include music (7,000 album records & CD collection), movies, sports (American football, baseball, tennis, bowling, para-gliding, etc.), automobiles, electronic gadgets, memorizing various statistical information, etc.

I returned back to Taiwan as an adult to make my fame and fortune as a scuba diving instructor but instead met my wife and moved back to the States. We have two children who are now on their own. Over the years, God took all my passions for health and safety and formed my interests to become an Environmental Health and Safety Director for the 20 plus years. The only gift that was not being used in the States was the ability to speak Chinese. Now God has fulfilled that working in China. I love being back in the Chinese culture and more importantly…the food

I am a “banana” (yellow on the outside, white (American) on the inside) because I was born in Korea, but grew up in America from the time I was 4 years old. I didn’t go back to visit Korea until I was 30 years old! Needless to say, I don’t remember very much about my Korean heritage, but I do love Korean food!

I am married to Senny, and we have two children, Jay and Jared. Since our family came to China in 2007, I have spent much of my time trying to learn Chinese, but always feel unfulfilled unless I am in the classroom teaching English—my passion!

My name is Bruce and my hometown is Yibin, in Sichuan.  I got married in 2015 and my wife and I were blessed with a baby boy the following year. I’ve worked at CDIS in various positions and I am here because I love the community. At CDIS, staff build close friendships and also there are very rich learning opportunities for learners, both for students and teachers. I started working in Secondary in 2015 and mainly help with classes when subject teachers are off campus for some reason.  Personal experience as well as great stories about learning have convinced me that teachers can play a crucial role in a student’s developmental stages.  That’s why I want to be a good teacher. I believe education should empower a student with understanding and skills for the age they live in and I believe at CDIS every teacher is working hard to make that happen. I’m excited to see your children display their talents and brilliance and I look forward to it each school year.

B.A. English Education – Sichuan Normal University

I was born and grew up in Sichuan province. I graduated from Sichuan Normal University in 2004 and started to serve in CDIS in various teaching roles. Though my major was English Education back in university, I also love teaching Chinese to the kids a lot, and watching them speaking Chinese fluently always makes my day! I’m thrilled to see how Chinese language works in young minds!

I’m from the northwest part of the United States, most recently Idaho, where we enjoy the tremendous beauty of nature. My husband works in Chengdu, and we have two children who attend CDIS. Before coming to China I worked in a variety of settings including public health, nursing education, and senior wellness programs. Living in China has really helped me to understand health care in a global setting, and I’m excited to be a part of the growing, healthy, international community at CDIS!

I have served the local and foreign community here through the years at Heart to Heart Clinic and through helping people navigate the local hospitals. In Canada I have worked in the Acute Care settings as well as with Seniors in Intermediate and Long Term Care Facilities. I enjoy working with the children, families, and staff at CDIS; helping them to grow well and stay healthy.

In my personal time, I like to do sports and travel.

I spent most of my growing up years in Taiwan where my parents ran an orphanage for handicapped kids.
