At CDIS we understand all too well that living abroad and going to school away from home and old friends can be challenging for children of all ages. The difficulties they struggle with are not always visible or clearly expressed. If not addressed, this can affect their behavior as well as their academic performance. For many students, living in China makes it more difficult to choose the subjects and select the colleges that would fit their passions and skills.

Our Student Services is experienced and committed to helping students reach their goals:

Personal goals

Our school counselor follows the PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) model in the US by working with students (both elementary and secondary) who may be having emotional or social difficulties; both on a case-by-case basis, and with regularly scheduled consultations with students and parents.

College & Career goals

The guidance counselor facilitates all onsite testing for students, including: SAT, PSAT, ACT, ISA, and AP exams. He also works closely with students and parents throughout students’ university application and admissions process to ensure that they find the school that’s right for their future.

Academic goals

Our Secondary Student Specialist tracks secondary students’ academic progress and consults with students who are having difficulty in their classes. She liaises with students, parents, teachers, and administration, in order to identify problem areas and develop action plans to promote academic success.

Community goals

The High School’s Student Council advisor plans various fun events for the student body throughout the year, such as the Winter and Spring Dances, the Talent Show, Spirit Week and the 30-Hour Famine. The CDIS House system has been developed to foster community and leadership in the student body.

The registrar at CDIS uses PowerSchool to ensure that all student data is correct and up-to-date, including personal data, scheduling, and transportation data, as well as transcripts and report cards. This enables us to keep staff and parents well informed of student progress and needs.
