Literacy Week: Celebrating the Joy of Reading!
November 14, 2025
Literacy Week at CDIS is a week-long celebration of the joy of reading, featuring exciting themes every day! Reading is one of the most powerful ways to expand young minds. It develops critical thinking, improves focus, and strengthens communication skills by exposing students to new ideas, cultures, and perspectives.
Monday: "Get Caught Reading Day"
We started the week by bringing our favorite books to read throughout the day. The goal was for students to "catch" adults reading during breaks, and for adults to "catch" students reading as well!

Tuesday: Classroom Door Decoration Contest
Classes decorated their doors based on a favorite class book or the theme "Discover Your Story."
Wednesday: Reading Buddies Day
Secondary students visited the elementary and early childhood classrooms to read to the younger students.

Thursday: "DEAR read" (Drop Everything And Read)
At 2:45 PM, everyone on campus took a break for 15 minutes to read a book of their choice. Students got creative in finding comfortable places to read outside of their usual classroom settings.
Book Character Day & Reader's Theater
Students and staff dressed up as their favorite book characters for the day. As the morning bell rang, they paraded around campus, showcasing their creativity through their chosen characters.
Parents amazed us with an engaging Reader's Theater performance for ECC, bringing the book's characters to life on stage. It was an exciting way to inspire a love for reading for our young learners.

Through reading, our students gain knowledge that helps them understand the world and themselves more deeply. Whether for learning or leisure, we emphasize the importance of reading to nourish the mind and foster empathy, laying the foundation for lifelong growth and success.
