High School Science Fair: Experiments That Shape Tomorrow

December 05, 2025

Chengdu International School recently held our annual High School Science Fair. Science fairs offer unique opportunities for students to apply the scientific method or the engineering design process to projects that have real-life implications. Through hands-on research, design, and experimentation, students can develop critical thinking skills, problem-solving abilities, and a deeper understanding of scientific and engineering principles.

This year's High School Science Fair showcased 10 science projects and 13 engineering projects, covering a range of areas including biomedical and health sciences, sustainable materials and design, biomedical engineering, and engineering technology. Throughout the fair, participants eagerly engaged with judges and the public by sharing their research findings, designs, and the valuable lessons they had learned from their projects.

We are pleased to see the hard work that students have put into their projects and are impressed by the creativity that they have demonstrated in their experimental or engineering designs. The top three winning projects featured outstanding work on developing an innovative method for E. coli detection by Kaylyn, altering the cellular microenvironment for cancer treatment by Steven, and designing an effective formulation for microplastic removal by Jeongmin and Jaewon.

After a thorough discussion with all the judges, we have selected the top two projects from the HS Science Fair to represent CDIS at the Sichuan Science Fair, scheduled to take place from January 15-17, 2026, in Chengdu. CDIS is proud to have hosted the Sichuan Science Fair for the past 20 years. The Sichuan Science Fair is the only qualifying fair affiliated with the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) for foreign expatriate children's schools in mainland China.

We are proud of our students' accomplishments through the High School Science Fair and look forward to hosting the 2026 Sichuan Science Fair!
