Highlights from hosting the 21st Sichuan Science Fair: Innovators of the Future!

January 23, 2026

International students from across the country took part in the 21st Sichuan Science Fair, hosted by Chengdu International School this past week. This event is the only qualifying science fair for international students in China who aspire to compete in the global Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF).

The event featured 71 participants, 58 projects, and 59 judges who attended the open viewing. The projects covered a variety of fields, including biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, artificial intelligence, and robotics. They showcased the leading research from international students in China and also invited members of the local partner school community to engage in discussions about science.

The top five projects from the Sichuan Science Fair have been chosen as finalists for the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) for their studies in biomedical and health sciences, translational medical sciences, engineering technology, and cellular and molecular biology. The participants behind these five projects will compete in the final ISEF in Phoenix, Arizona, USA this May. Congratulations to both the finalists and the award winners!

Science is not merely a subject. Throughout history, science has been integrated with technology and applied to daily life, not only greatly improving people's lives but also leading the changes of the times. If history studies the past and politics narrates the present, science indicates the future. Science is not mere empty talk on paper; rather, it is closely related to daily life, allowing people to personally feel its existence and charm in their daily work and study. -Mr. Du Qiang, High School Science Teacher

To me, the most memorable moments were the intense discussions happening in the judges' conference room. In order to validate project rankings based on judging scores, judges need to share specific observations and evidence collected from interviews with participants on-site. To ensure the validity and rigor of our judging results, this process extends beyond a simple comparison of scores. Judges engage in thorough discussions, meticulously examining each project's strengths and weaknesses, and critically evaluating the supporting evidence. I truly appreciate our judges' dedicated professionalism in analyzing and evaluating projects this year. -Mr. Mike Chen, High School Science Teacher

Congratulations to the finalists, and thank you once again to all participants, judges, volunteers, partner schools, and the community who attended!
